YQ Wheat Bar

UNITED KINGDOM - 2021

YQ Wheat bars are tasty and convenient cereal bars made from seasonal ingredients grown through agroforestry farming principles, including YQ Wheat, a diverse population wheat developed by Martin Wolfe.

YQ Wheat Bars are soft cereal bars produced entirely from British agroforestry produce, similar in texture to a flapjack. In the Autumn Harvest bar, YQ wheat grains are baked with a blend of slow roasted Braeburn apples and cold-pressed rapeseed oil to produce a soft texture with malty undertones, and toasted hazelnuts and shredded carrot provide additional colour, texture and flavour. Our goal in producing YQ Wheat Bars is to promote sustainable agriculture through the use of diverse population crops and agroforestry farming techniques. As well as raising awareness of these methods, we are seeking to create a market demand for them as a value adding product, encouraging more producers to switch to sustainable forms of agriculture. Agroforestry simply involves growing alleys of different crops on the same plot of land between rows of trees. The diverse community of plants supports and protects each other, requiring lower inputs and regenerating soil health. Soil is allowed to function naturally as living eco-system, rather than being decimated in the name of high yields. YQ is a diverse population wheat containing 1000 genetically diverse varieties. It is an extraordinarily resilient and consistent crop with a lower requirement for inputs such as pesticides or fungicides. It thrives when sheltered by the trees in an agroforestry system. With our YQ Wheat Bars, we want to draw attention to what is possible when we work alongside nature, rather than against it.
